Marconi Bench Talk
Welcome
to everyone from Coventry Marconi for this afternoons
game here at Tally Ho! Makes a pleasant change not
to have a fixture that clashes with an England fixture.
Mind you, many would say that it was a blessing in
disguise that we were not able to see their efforts!
Especially a 'Jock' like me who thanks England for
giving everybody something to mock in place of Scotlands
draw away to the Faroe Islands. Probably not a great
deal in it as to which was the worst performance.
Having
said that our midweek performance in the 1-0 defeat
away to Nuneaton Griff last Wednesday was a pretty
poor performance as we lost all shape and failed to
play for each other. Having said that we should still
probably have nicked a draw if we had managed to convert
one of several very good chances.
Our
performance was all the more disappointing in view
of the solid performances in our previous three matches.
Our draw at home against Pershore Town ten days ago
was very encouraging following on from our 1-0 home
win over Loughborough the Saturday before. Pershore
had the better of the first period and we came out
battling after the break and an equalising goal from
a towering header by Lyndion Price midway through
the half gave us that vital encouragement. Yes folks,
I did say Lyndon Price. I am not sure that he has
ever scored for us before! It was great to see the
way that players threw themselves in front of the
ball to defend the result in the closing stages of
the match.
We
followed that up with a creditable 1-1 draw away at
Coleshill Town where we went a goal down immediately
after the break and clawed our way back into the game
with a Gavin Smith equaliser. Darren Carmell held
onto our share of the points with another great penalty
save in the dying minutes. He does it so often that
I think we become a little blasé about his
ability in that particular art.
As
usual player availability is still unknown but here's
hoping that we get back to the solid performances
of the games prior to Nuneaton Griff. Enjoy the game
and we look forward to seeing you down here on Tuesday
when we take on Nuneaton Borough Reserves in the Midland
Floodlit Cup.
