Romulus
Bench Talk
Saturday 5 April 2003
Welcome
to everyone for this afternoon’s game at Tally
Ho. My article today is all about the ‘sublime
to the ridiculous’ and after ‘The Lord
Mayor’s Show.’ Confused. You are not the
only one!
Two weeks ago we played a confident Fernhill County
outfit who were playing us off the back of a 2-1 win
they achieved at Alvechurch. What was our response?
We go out and totally nullify them from start to finish
and deservedly grab the three points through that
very rare occurrence - a Lyndon Price goal. From 1
to 14 the whole team performed.
Last Saturday we went to Castle Vale KH. I know that
because the fixture list tells me that was where we
were playing. We got stuffed 4-1 and with a couple
of exceptions the team did not perform or turn up.
What totally baffles me is how virtually the same
14 players can put in performances so dramatically
contrasting in terms of effort. I’m not sure
the player’s understood either.
We have to get our chins off the ground and stop
feeling sorry for ourselves, roll our sleeves up as
we did two weeks ago and go out and battle and scrap
for each other. Confidence is obviously brittle but
the performance of two weeks ago tells me that if
we can do it once, we can do it twice providing we
show the correct attitude. Romulus are one of the
form teams in the league and we are clearly going
to have to be up for it from the off if we are to
get some much needed points.
Darren Wilkinson and Ian Millward join Andy Reece
on the injured list whilst Mark Langley and Pete Lee
are away for the week-end with Mike Mason missing
because he is working the Villa/Arsenal match. Back
in the frame come Keiron McDade and Gavin Smith.
We hope that you enjoy the game and look forward
to seeing you here for our next home game against
Leamington on Tuesday 22nd. That could be quite a
game. They usually bring a crowd of at least 100-150
and since they are still likely to be challenging
for the title then we will both be scrapping furiously
for the points.
