Leamington Bench Talk
Saturday 11 October 2003

A warm welcome to everyone connected with Leamington Football Club for this afternoon's game at Tally Ho. Unfortunately, I will not be at the game because 'my inconsiderate son' has chosen to get married in Ipswich on a 'football day'.

I was particularly looking forward to this match following on from last April's encounter here at Tally Ho when I was greatly impressed by the conduct of the committee, player's and supporter's of Leamington when we narrowly defeated you and put a big dent in your promotion hopes. It was a cracking game but my abiding memory was of the Leamington supporters clapping my players off the field despite their great disappointment.

From a purely selfish perspective I hope that the scenario is similarly repeated today as we seek to build on last Tuesday's 2-0 win over Massey Ferguson. Darren Carmell was obviously pleased with his clean sheet on his return to the team as he battles for the goalie' s shirt. Steve Piearce netted a double on his return from injury and also back in the fold on Tuesday night were Andy Reece and Mike Mason to give us that extra bit of added quality. Generally, we gave a sound defensive performance and probably should have won by another couple of goals.

Unfortunately Richard Cox, Mike Mason and Paul Shaw all had to leave the field of play due to injuries and have to be considered doubtful for this afternoon. We are also waiting to hear on the availability of Nick Colley, Steve Patrick and Ian Millward.

My assistants Neill Hornby and Andy Reece are 'in the chair' for this afternoon and I will probably 'sneak' a phone call late in the afternoon to find out the result. Sad, isn't it! Enjoy the game.
