CARMELL
IN CRUCIAL STOPPAGE TIME PENALTY SAVE
Darren
Carmell salvaged a point for Police with a brilliant
save from the penalty spot two minutes into stoppage
time.
West
Mids first chance came on 26 minutes, when a back
pass fell short of Town keeper Greg Allen and his
subsequent clearance rebounded off the advancing Police
striker David Blake and went out of play for a goal
kick.
Town's
best chance of the half fell to Dave Wilson on 30
minutes, when he got on the end of a deep cross from
Lee MacCarthy but he headed over from in front of
goal.
Police
enjoyed a good spell towards the end of the first
half. Gavin Smith burst through and saw a dipping
shot beat the keeper but it bounced back off the crossbar.
Then on the stroke of half time a Chris Adams cross
was totally missed in front of an open goal.
Coleshill
took the lead just three minutes into the second half
when Malcolm Powers burst down the left and a pin-point
cross found David Wilson who powered home a header
giving Carmell no chance.
Police
equalised on 64 minutes when Mark Lowry floated in
a fierce free kick to the far post and Gavin Smith
forced the ball home off his shin.
Carmell
was in action again on 68 minutes parrying a rocket-like
30 yard drive from Glen Simms and two minutes later
saving a close range shot after a goalmouth scramble.
Two
minutes into stoppage time West Mids keeper Darren
Carmell appeared to have been fouled as the ball came
across from a Coleshill right wing corner but there
was no whistle from the referee and in the resulting
melee a Police arm was seen to push the ball away
on the goal line and the referee awarded a penalty.
Darren Carmell held his nerve and dived to his right
to save Power's fiercely struck spot kick.
