NO MATCH FOR TIMBERS AS LEWIS GUNS DOWN WEST MIDS
Police
gave a below par performance and were punished by
Timbers who had Huw Lewis in sparkling form, scoring
a hat-trick.
Timbers
set the pattern in the sixth minute, when Adrian Rose
crossed to Dave Robson who headed wide in front of
an open goal. Two minutes later a Rose cross-cum-shot
was parried out by Police keeper Darren Carmell to
Dave Trevalen who shot wide of another open goal.
The
first Police chance came on 23 minutes when a long
ball from Neill Hornby found Kevin Usher on the right
flank and a good cross found Lee Wharmby who miss-hit
his shot straight to Timbers keeper James Trevalen.
West Mids' move of the half came when Andy Reece found
Hornby who crossed to Dayle Speed who headed just
wide. Three minutes before half time, Handrahan went
ahead when Police defender Holden, headed into the
path of Lewis who raced clear to fire past the exposed
Carmell.
West
Mids could not make any impression on the visitors
defence and it came as no surprise when, on 79 minutes,
Lewis added number two by side-footing home an inch
perfect cross from James Mattin. To rub salt into
the Police wounds, in stoppage time, it was Lewis
again, converting a Dave Trevelan cross to complete
his hat-trick and an emphatic win for Timbers.
