TALLY
HO! AS POLICE RACE
TO VICTORY OF THE SEASON
West
Midlands Police put the ‘brakes’ on
league leaders Leamington to ensure their Premier
Division survival.
Mark Delaney gave his best performance of the season,
his darting runs were rewarded with a brace of goals
and the ’Brakes’ keeper, James Gettings
was called into action as Delaney constantly troubled
their back line.
Leamington
took the lead on 18 minutes through Ben Adams. On
34 minutes West Mids equalised after David Blake
was fouled on the edge of the box and a Beckham-like
free kick by Ollie Latchford was brilliantly struck
into the top corner of the net.
Leamington
restored their lead early in the second half when
Paul Nicholls hammered a shot into the bottom corner
of the net.
West
Mids then dominated the game and with Gavin Smith
injured, Mark Bellingham came off the bench and
soon showed his class when he flicked the ball into
the path of Mark Delaney who raced into the box
and sided footed the ball past keeper Gettings to
net the equaliser.
Mark
Delaney secured a memorable victory for the Police
when he broke clear down the right and struck a
left footed shot in the top corner of the net form
25 yards out. With seven minutes of stoppage time
added on, the Police battled to keep their lead
and when the final whistle came the Tally Ho! Boys
were worthy winners and Leamington must be congratulated
for playing their part in an exciting match.
The
strong contingent of Leamington supporters must
also be congratulated for the way they conducted
themselves throughout the game and they applauded
West Mids off the pitch at the end of the game knowing
that defeat may have cost them the Premier Division
Championship.
