SHAW CONCEDES NEEDLESS PENALTY

Paul Shaw gave away a needless second half penalty to give Coventry Sphinx all three points in a disappointing game at Tally Ho!

Sphinx could have scored in the opening minute when Damian McDade wriggled through the Police defence bit delayed his shot and Darren Carmell saved well at his feet. Carmeell was in action again on 15 minutes when he went full stretch to save a twenty yard shot from Rob Stevenson.

In the second half Police missed a good chance on 64 minutes when Mark Delaney burst through the Sphinx defence but fired over from a good position just inside the box.

Two minutes later, Police paid the penalty for Paul Shaw's rash push on Damian McDade in the penalty area and Stevenson stepped up to convert the resultant spot kick.

In the last five minutes, Police had two good chances to snatch a draw. First, a Paul Webb free kick found Neil Jones who saw his downward header well saved at the foot of the post by Sphinx keeper Simon Holland. Then, in the last minute, Webb sent Jones away but a fierce shot was parried over the bar by Holland.
