REECE
DOUBLE SEES POLICE HOME
Police
strolled to their first win of the season with comfortable
3-0 victory over visitors Meir K.A. with Andy Reece
playing a starring role on his first appearance of
the season. The home side showed a number of enforced
changes from Saturday's game with Feckenham as Neill
Hornby, Dave Blake and Dayle Speed also returned to
the starting line-up.
The
much changed police defence took a while to settle
as Meir K.A. started brightly and put the home defence
under pressure. The Police team slowly gained a foothold
on the game and missed a succession of opportunities
to take the lead. The clearest chances fell to Dayle
Speed and Dave Blake who failed to convert when clean
through on goal.
On
35 minutes, Police took the lead when Andy Reece thumped
home a 35-yard drive into the top corner of the net
following a 5 man passing movement. Police maintained
the upper hand through to the interval without adding
to their lead.
Police
took control of the game on 50 minutes when Kevin
Usher latched onto a Dave Blake headed through ball
and thumped home a stunning goal from 25 yards to
maintain his gaol a game start to the season. West
Mids were never seriously challenged for the remainder
of the match although Darren Carmell had to make a
good save at the feet of the onrushing Meir striker.
It
was no surprise when the home team increased their
lead in the 70th minute when Andy Reece converted
a penalty following a strong tackle on Lee Wharmby
inside the box. Thereafter, the Police failed to convert
a number of excellent chances, yet still cantered
home at a trot.
