The
first half saw end to end football and in the 19th
minute West Mids failed to defend Vale’s Dave
Barnes’ cross and Shaun Kidson had time to
turn and slot the ball home from close range.
West
Mids came close to equalising when Mark Bellingham
sprang Castle Vale’s off-side trap to put
Mark Delaney clear but Vale keeper Greg Allen was
on hand to block his shot.
With
‘Scoop’ Pearson incapacitated, ’Lancashire’
Jack stepped into the breach to pen the second half
action and what a fine job he did. It’s good
to know that we have a young man like Jack, able
to take over from veteran reporter ’Scoop’
Pearson when the need arises.
The second
half kicked off with West Mids attacking and in
the 50th minute Mark Bellingham was brought down
in the penalty area and he converted the resultant
spot kick to make it 1-1.
Vale
regained the lead on 60 minutes when Gavin Rodgers
scored straight from a free kick. Seven minutes
later Vale made it 3-1 from yet another free kick
when Matty Powers put the ball into the top corner
of the net. Castle Vale were now well in control
and the inevitable fourth goal came on 81 minutes
when Shane Benjamin had the freedom of the park
to score from 25 yards.
