FEARS HIT WEST MIDS AFTER
SECOND FIVE NIL DEFEAT IN FOUR DAYS
Police
slumped to a second 5-0 defeat in four days which
sees their current league form (last 8 matches)
read Won 0, drawn 2, lost 6, goals for 4, goals
against 20 and they now face a crucial period with
games against fellow strugglers Kings Heath (home),
Southam United (away) and Cheslyn Hay (home) and
a difficult home match against top half of the table
Coventry Sphinx and a third round League Challenge
Cup tie at old rivals Pershore Town.
West
Mids kept a clean sheet in the first half but had
keeper Darren Carmell to thank for keeping it that
way with a full length save to deny Simon Harbone
and then Bravely saving at the feet of Peta John
Gordon who had wriggled through the defence to set
up a one-on-one.
Police
were playing with the slope in the second half but
could not take advantage and it was no surprise
when Marconi took the lead on 56 minutes when Carmell
could only parry out a Gordon header and Mattie
O'Rourke was on hand to poke the ball home.
Police
than held on until 12 minutes from the end when
the floodgates opened and Marconi added four more.
Paul Shaw brought down Gordon and Graig Civzelis
buried the spot kick. Three minutes later no Police
defender attacked the ball from a David Drennan
corner and substitute Tony Bent was left with a
simple tap in. On 84 minutes, from another Drennan
corner the Police defence went missing and Gordon
headed home from close range. The rout was completed
in the last minute when, following a neat passing
move Gordon crossed to Drennan who rifled home goal
number five.
