MIDLAND
FOOTBALL ALLIANCE
PREMIER DIVISION
West
Midlands Police 3, Alveston 0
West
Mids mini revival continued as they saw off bottom but one
Alveston thanks to three well taken goals.
Police
started well and Steve Patrick set up Steve Piearce who
saw his angled shot well saved on the near post by Alveston
keeper Jon Garrett. Then, Gavin Smith set up Piearce again
on the edge of the box, but the shot was straight at Garrett.
West
Mids took the lead on 22 minutes when Kevin Casson played
a free kick to Baljit Singh on the left flank and a deep
cross to the far post was headed down by Richard Cox to
Martin Slattery who swept the ball home from close range.
Piearce was a constant threat to the visitors and two more
shots on target were well saved by Garrett.
On
40 minutes, Alveston went close to an equaliser when a cross
from Martin West fell to Jeff Arnold, unmarked and five
yards out his header went over the bar.
West
Mids dominated the second half and added two more goals.
On 71 minutes, Casson took a free kick from the edge of
the box and Richard Cox, who had found space scored with
a delightful close range header, he then raced up the field
in celebration and we haven't seen him since.
Five
minutes from time a deep left wing cross from Gaggy Bedi
saw Piearce at full stretch to volley home from 5 yards.
Alveston
never gave up and went close to a consolation goal twice
in the last two minutes. Substitute James Cross forcing
Police custodian Tony 'Pop' Workman into a full stretch
save and Cross again bursting through a static Police defence
shot wide with the goal at his mercy.
