MIDLAND
FOOTBALL COMBINATION
PREMIER DIVISION
West Midlands Police (0) 0 Romulus (1) 3
West Mids failure to convert gilt edged chances at crucial
stages of the game cost them dearly as Romulus ended the
Police early season 100 per cent record.
Police started well and Mark Bellingham fired two shots
wide before Michael Mason sent Steve Piearce away and his
fierce drive was tipped over by Romulus keeper Derek Dudley.
On
15 minutes, Romulus should have gone ahead when a Dennis
Mulholland free-kick found Tyrone Fagan who headed wide
from in front of an open goal. A minute later West Mids
were guilty of failing to convert another good chance when
Michael Mason scuffed a rebound to put the ball wide of
the post after his close range shot had been blocked on
the goal line by a Romulus defender.
Romulus
took the lead on 35 minutes with a simple goal. A deep cross
from Aaron Brown was flicked on by Robbie Hunter to Matthew
Robinson who side-footed home from close range.
Three
minutes into the second half West Mids should have equalised
when an Ollie Latchford corner fell to a Police attacker
who was unmarked on the far post but he completely missed
the ball (I could not identify who it was, perhaps that's
as well).
Romulus
then had the best of the second half and added two more
goals. On 67 minutes, Robinson raced clear and crossed for
Fagan to slam the ball home and goal number three came from
Hunter who ran through the Police defence and scored with
a well placed shot from just inside the box.
