MIDLAND FOOTBALL ALLIANCE
PREMIER DIVISION

West Midlands Police 2, Southam United 1

Two goals in the opening 20 minutes were enough to give the Police victory over bottom of the table club Southam United. Police had a chance to take the lead in the second minute when a Mark Bellingham free kick found Richard Cox in the box but he delayed his shot and the ball was cleared. A minute later West Mids did go ahead when a Bellingham shot was deflected to Martin Slattery who turned and lashed the ball home inside the near post from 10 yards out.

Veteran keeper, Tony Workman then denied Southam an equaliser by saving with his legs when the visitors captain Niall O'Rouke hit a close range shot. On 19 minutes West Mids added goal number two when a long ball over the top from Paul Probert caught the Southam defence square and Bellingham raced clear and slotted the ball home past the advancing keeper. This second goal effectively killed off the game as a contest with Police content to defend their two goal advantage and Southam for all their neat passing were unable to penetrate a resolute Police defence.
