MIDLAND
FOOTBALL COMBINATION
CHALLENGE CUP - FIRST ROUND
Massey
Ferguson (0) 1 West Midlands Police (0) 0
Both
teams were weakened by the loss of several key players through
injury or suspension.
The
first half saw West Mids kicking up hill and against a very
strong wind. The game was fairly even with both keepers
saving well. In the 40th minute, Tony Workman (yes the effervescent
lad himself) saved from point blank range and then he was
in action again to save a Darren Whetton free-kick from
the edge of the box.
Just
five minutes into the second half, the Police defence failed
to clear their lines and Whetton put the 'Tractor Boys'
1-0 up with a great strike, giving Tony Workman no chance.
The rest of the half saw Massey Ferguson hold firm as West
Mids pushed hard for the equaliser with the down hill and
strong wind advantage at their backs.
