MIDLAND
FOOTBALL COMBINATION
PREMIER DIVISION
Southam
United (0) 0 West Midlands Police (2) 2
(Played
at Alveston F.C. due to continuing ground problems at Southam
F.C.)
Two
vastly different first half goals from Stephen Piearce were
enough for the Police to secure all three points against
lowly Southam to put themselves joint top of the table as
league leaders Leamington fell to their first league defeat
of the season.
The opening goal, on six minutes was a gem with Gagy Bedi
playing the ball to Steve Piearce who was on the edge of
the box and with his back to the goal, he turned and left
his marker for dead, took one stride into the box and fired
home an unstoppable cross shot into the top corner of the
net, giving the keeper no chance.
West
Mids made it 2-0 with a less spectacular effort when a Southam
defender, under pressure from Piearce, played the ball back
to his goalkeeper who scuffed his clearance and Piearce
had the simple task of tapping the ball into an unguarded
net.
Police
had lots of chances in the second half which were all off
target and did not trouble the Southam keeper.
