Smedley Crooke Cup First Round

NORTHFIELD TOWN 3 WEST MIDLANDS Police 0

Against old friends and rivals Nortfield Town (now in a lower division of the Midland Combination - Division One), West Mids gave a poor performance and were deservedly dumped out of the Smedley Crooke Cup.

Two goals early on put Northfield well on their way to victory. On ten minutes, Paul Waters sent Kierran Cross away down the left flank and he cut inside and scored with a fierce cross shot into the corner of the net. Four minutes later Robert Agar put in a right wing cross towards the near post as the Police defence hesitated, James Hands nipped in to score with a close range shot that went in off the post.

From the only chances that fell to the Police in the first half, Wayne Healey (twice0 saw his shots well saved by keeper Dave Inman.

West Mids battled on the second half but did not seriously trouble a resolute Northfield defence. Northfield sealed victory on 75 minutes when substitute Colin Tandy went down in the box and the referee awarded a disputed penalty. Agar took the spot kick, which Darren Carmell saved well diving to his right but Agar following up side footed home the rebound.
