PLAYER PROFILES - SEASON 2005-06

Updated: 24th January 2006

Gez Moore - Vice Chairman

Gez has been involved in Police football for more years than he cares to mention.  A brave goalkeeper (some would say mad) but has up until this season played for the first and reserve teams, with the loss of a reserve side this year his opportunities have been limited but remains the keeper for the Force Vets side.  Following the demise of the previous committee Gez took up the difficult job of maintaining a Police side in the current climate and remains involved on a weekly basis.

Ron Harvey - Manager

Ron returned to managing the Police side last season with Rob Sutton, due to work commitments this year Ron has taken on the main Managers position supported by Rob. Ron has been involved in Police football for a number of years, mainly with the reserve team.  After a successful time he left to take up other positions ending up at Northfield Town.  The Police finally persuaded him to return and he is looking forward to rebuilding  the team again.  In his playing days Ron was a fast and skilful forward who joined the Police from the Army where he had a distinguished career within sport.

Rob Sutton - Assistant Manager

Rob has been involved in Police football since joining the Force in 1985, he still occasionally turns out if required.  He was a big strong centre half, short of skill it is sometimes said but prepared to battle.  He has had success in the playing days and his finest moment was captaining the reserves  in winning the Third Division.  Took over the reserves shortly after this and enjoyed many seasons together with Ron Harvey.  Due to retirements Rob took up the position of first team manager last season together with Ron and following a poor performance this season has seen a complete rebuild which they hope will one day put the club back to its true position.

Dave Scriven - Secretary/Striker

Dave has been involved in Police football for what seems a 'lifetime'.  He first became involved as a cadet and progressed onto playing for the Police through their finest moments.  Dave has always been a big strong forward who links play so well, it is no surprise that even at his age he is still able to turn out and lead the forward line with expert ease.  He also had a time at managing the first team, but following the retirement of the old committee Dave has returned in order to keep the club running with a view to continuing the tradition of Police football

Ian Griffiths - Midfielder

Ian has been with the club since he was a cadet, which appears to be some time now, but he is still young.  A tenacious midfielder who is prepared to battle.  Has this season struggled to establish himself but is an ever present wit in the dressing room who takes charge of the fines. With a consistent run will easily establish himself within the team. Overall is another managers dream as he very rarely moans and will offer support at every opportunity.

Dave Blake - Striker

Dave only took up football seriously about four years ago and quickly progressed from police works football through the Reserves and into the First Team ending up as top goal scorer 2003/04. He is particularly strong in the air and as his all round game continues to develop along with his self-confidence.  He recently left the Police for a career break to New Zealand and after some 11 months has returned.  He has remained fit and it will only be a matter of time before he returns to the level he was at.

Martin Slattery - Midfield

Martin is a wide midfield player who can play on either side of the pitch. He joined the force five years ago and played for the Reserves before breaking through into the first team this season. Martin was at Middlesborough School of Excellence before moving on to play for Marske United for a season. He then played for Wolverhampton University for three seasons before joining the force.

John Quinney - Defender

John joined the Police this season and was transferred from Coventry Sphinx.  He is a tall dominating centre half who is young and is prepared to listen.  His talents have been recognised by the management team who have already made him captain of the team and he has rewarded the team with many strong performances.

Danny Bates - Midfielder

Danny played last season for the reserves and has this year stayed with the club and become a vital member of the main team.  He started the season as sweeper but with his improvement in fitness he has been moved to great effect into midfield where he has formed a good understanding with Mark McDonagh.  He is certainly one for the future and should remain a vital part of the team.

Simon Williams - Goalkeeper

Simon has been a regular last season and performed under difficult circumstances to an exceptionally high standard.  His shot stopping is his obvious strength but he has worked hard at his all round game, injuries have this season restricted him but he is starting to regain fitness and is a valuable member of the team.

Andy McCord - Defender

Has been with Police football for a number of years, for the majority he played with the reserves but last season broke into the First team.  He would have you believe he is a big strong centre half, but he is only in the team because he is a character in the dressing room!  Has changed jobs this season and this has clearly effected his performances, he has once again broke back into the team and with continued appearances he will once again establish himself.

Jake Harvey - Defender/midfielder

Jake was players player of the year last season considering it was his first year at this level and his young age that was a major achievement.  Before playing for the police Jake was part of the youth academy at Wolves and WBA.  He is a versatile player with pace and plenty of skill.

Pete Lee - Defender

Pete has been involved in Police football for a number of years now.  He is essentially a right sided full back or midfield player.  He has plenty of ability and a real team player, hence he has been a virtually ever present this season

Mark McDonagh - Midfielder

Mark is one of the few non Policeman to play for the club, but his attitude and work rate have made him a favourite amongst the players.  He originally joined the club from Chasetown where his options were limited.  On arriving he quickly established himself as a consistent performer who offers stability within the midfield.

Tom Smith - Forward

Tom has been with the club as a civilian for a few years, part of a family of footballers, his dad Steve played for the force as does his brother Ben who has since moved onto Oldbury.  Tom joins the Police this year and he has yet again shown his ability to score goals. He has a knack of being in the right place and is the classic poacher combined with the ability to score outstanding individual goals, he has established himself as a main stay of the team.

Tom Reynolds - Midfielder

Another non Policeman and also with Jake the babe of the team. Tom joined last season and his ability and confidence on the ball were clear to all.  Still learning the trade but a managers dream as his attitude is an example to all. Suffered  a fractured leg last season and is still building the strength back but will establish himself in time.

Dayle Speed - Midfielder

Can be classed as one of the veterans now of what is a young squad.  Has played for the Police for a number of years and this season has been interrupted by work and social commitments.  He is a power player with plenty of skill, needs to have a long run to establish his fitness but again a team player who is totally committed to the police football.

Mike Griffiths - Goalkeeper

Mike has joined the team this season and has had limited opportunities.  Is learning his trade but supports Simon Williams at every opportunity.  He has supported the team by attending virtually all games and waits his chance with commendable patience.  He will of course get the chance at some stage and it is known that he will not let anyone down.

Dan Jarratt - Midfielder

Dan joined the club last year and due to work commitments was unable to turn out every week, this led to him struggling to find that consistency. This season he has been able to attend more games and this has improved his game.  He is a left sided attacking midfielder with plenty of skill and pace.  He again will be a long term regular if he chooses.

Neil Tiller - Forward

Neil is a big strong centre forward with a surprising amount of skill, has for the last two seasons not been able to commit to playing week in week out and is definitely missed by his team.  He has played occasionally and scored on two of these outings, is good in the air and links play well. If only he could play week in week out!

Zac Berry - Forward

Zac has been with the club for a couple of seasons having joined from Handsworth Utd.  He played for the reserves but this year has showed loyalty to the club and remained, injuries have prevented him from having any kind of run in the team but is passionate and aggressive in his game.

Tom Widdows - Defender

Tom has just joined the Police and has recently started playing for the football section.  He is a capable defender who started with Kings Lynn F C in Norfolk, as a youth team and reserve team player.  He progressed into University football and has now started a career within the police force. Tom has showed good promise and will no doubt feature in the long term.
